Myobloc for Hyperhidrosis : Techniques
|
|
Axillae
To treat hyperhidrosis of the axillae, the dose used is 2,880 Myobloc units per axilla for a total dose of 5,760 units. The Myobloc 5,000 unit vial (5000 units in 1cc) is diluted with 1.0cc of saline in the vial. (Either saline containing benzoic acid or preservative-free saline can be used). Note that the vials are overfilled, therefore the dilution would differ if you dilute in the syringe. See dilution tables for more information.

This dilution technique, when performed in the vial, yields 288 units per 0.1cc of solution or 144 units per 0.05cc of solution. This dilution allows one to inject 20 injections of 0.05 cc per axillae, resulting in a total dose of 2,880 per axillae. The injections are scattered approximately every 2 square centimeters to cover the entire area of the axillae. (The iodine starch test is helpful when deciding where to inject the solution. See hints section)
Using a 1cc tuberculin syringe with a 30-gauge needle, subcutaneously inject 0.05cc with an approximate depth of 2-3mm. A small bleb will form at the placement of each injection.
